The LAST House A BOOMER will Own!

If you were born between 1946 and 1964…You are a Baby Boomer! If you’re a Boomer, you ARE starting to think about retirement; if it’s possible, how to do it, etc.  If you’re NOT a Boomer, you will still enjoy this Blog – call it a look into your future!  A recent Associated Press survey shows that Boomers are looking for smaller, affordable homes as they consider their retirement years…Baby Boomers looking for a Perfect Home

Given the world economic situation, I understand.  Among those surveyed, the most important factors in selecting this home included:

Smaller home (40%) – with the kids gone, no need for that 5 bedroom, 1 acre lawn-mowing size home to maintain. (Interestingly, 8% of Baby Boomers wanted a LARGER home for their retirement – obviously planning some big family reunions!)

Near medical offices and hospitals (39%) – good thinking!

A warmer friendlier climate (30%) – Southern California is nice and warm, and, oh yeah, very expensive.

More affordable home (25%) – with investments taking a beating, people are expecting to have less money per month for their retirement budget.  A less expensive home is a great place to start.

Being close to family (15%) – I was surprised by this low showing…maybe after a lifetime of being around the kids, or the kids no longer staying close, people are planning on enduring their Golden Years more on their own.  Not me!

For sure, retirements are being delayed while people try to recoup investment losses, while they wait for their home values to recover, and surveys are showing that only 9 percent of baby boomers expect that they will live ‘comfortably’ in retirement.  Ouch!

From a realtor’s point of view, your HOME is one of the most important components of YOUR LIFE!  Even if you haven’t given it much thought up to this point, taking time to talk “the future” with a realtor can give you a smart look at the landscape.   In particular, you need an experienced realtor who can genuinely take into account those specifications that YOU are looking for in the future: the smaller home, near medical offices, in a warmer climate, and affordable to your budget.  At Equity Real Estate, our realtors have the compassion, the experience and the know-how to deal with your real estate needs, whether they are immediate or long term.  Give us a call at (801) 651-3071 or check out our website at www.easyutahhomesearch.com.  Blogged by Mark J Whitlock, Orange Tail Marketing 2011.
